Let's hear what Tameryn, the owner and founder of Selkia Skin has to say...
__________________________________________________________________
Selkia was built on the Gold Coast.
This is where the brand took shape, where I spent years refining what it would stand for, who it was for, and what kind of skincare I believed Australian women and men truly needed.
My interest in skincare started more than twenty years ago when I worked for Clarins. At the time, Clarins was one of the few major brands genuinely centred around plant science. Botanical extracts weren’t just an added feature, they were core to the brand’s philosophy. That early exposure sparked a lasting interest in how botanicals could be used effectively, not just beautifully, and taken with respect to the planet.
What stayed with me was the idea that plants could be powerful, but only if formulated properly.
Years later, living in coastal Australia and spending time between different beach environments before settling permanently on the Gold Coast, I became increasingly aware of something: Australian skin lives differently.
Our UV index is among the highest in the world. We move between humidity and dry heat. We live outdoors. We wear sunscreen daily. Salt water, wind and air conditioning all affect our barrier function.
And yet, so many products available here are developed for completely different climates.
Selkia was created to respond to that.

What Slow Skincare Means To Us
Slow skincare, for us, is about discipline and long-term thinking.
It means not chasing every new trend. It means understanding that skin repair, collagen production and barrier strength happen gradually. It means choosing formulas that support the skin’s natural processes rather than constantly disrupting them.
Slow skincare focuses on resilience and intention.
It doesn’t mean avoiding actives. It means using them thoughtfully. Selkia is designed to work with prescription medication that are gold class for ageing support and elasticity.
Formulating skincare that can be used on sensitive skin is wonderful, because it means it's great for all and delivers performance in a way that is sustainable for the skin.
And it also means reducing excess, fewer, multifunctional products that work cohesively.
Farm to Skin. Curated with Intention. We spend an extraordinary amount of time sourcing botanicals and refining formulas so they suit Australian skin and climate. Quality, traceability and balance matter more to us than trend cycles. The goal is always the same: To combine botanical strength with gentle, barrier-supportive performance. Our Reparation Face Balm, featured in the Autumn Gift Box, is a clear example. It begins with aloe vera leaf juice and glycerin for hydration, supported by camellia seed oil and grape seed oil to nourish and reinforce the skin barrier. A dash of hyaluronic acid (safe to pair with an additional hyaluronic serum) help attract and retain moisture, while Mountain Pepper leaf extract (from Tasmania) and chamomile offer calming support. The balance of lipids, humectants and soothing botanicals is designed to restore comfort without heaviness or overload. Rich enough to protect, light enough to absorb.
Selkia products are gentle, yet effective. Calm in feel, purposeful in function, designed to strengthen the skin over time, not overwhelm it. |

Designed for Australian Environments
Our hero product, Protéger Bioactive Face Oil, was designed to strengthen and protect the skin barrier while supporting collagen signalling. It contains bakuchiol, a plant-derived ingredient studied for its ability to stimulate collagen pathways with lower irritation potential compared to traditional retinoids. It is supported by antioxidant-rich seabuckthorn and lipid-rich plant oils to reinforce barrier function.
Our Aloès Doux Cleanser is 90% aloe-based rather than water-based. It removes sunscreen and daily buildup effectively, without leaving the skin tight or compromised, something particularly important in high-UV regions where daily SPF use is essential.
Each product exists for a clear reason. Nothing is added simply for marketing appeal.

Why Selkia Stands Apart
Selkia is intentionally boutique.
We are family-run. My husband and the Mallett family are involved in daily operations, from logistics to packaging coordination. That structure allows us to stay closely connected to every decision.
We develop products in small batches. This allows tighter quality control and avoids unnecessary overproduction.
We prioritise refillable glass packaging across our core range. Customers invest in a bottle designed to stay on their shelf, then replenish it through refill pouches. Sustainability is built into the purchasing model, not treated as an afterthought.
There is also a strong aesthetic element to Selkia. Each bottle carries a symbol inspired by nature, protection, renewal, the ocean, native botanicals. I’ve always believed skincare should feel intentional in your space. When something feels considered and beautiful, it becomes part of your routine.
And routine is what creates change.
I’m incredibly proud of Selkia and honoured to be included in Peony Parcel’s Autumn Gift Box. The alignment feels natural, thoughtful curation, small business support, and products chosen with intention.
